Latest research indicates that the state of your oral health is a good indicator of your Dental Teeth For Healthoverall health. According to Li Mao, MD, a professor at the University of Maryland Dental School, tissue in the mouth can be used to indicate different types of illnesses and the research in this area is expanding to determine what other health signals can be found in the mouth.

As this area of research develops, dentists may not only be diagnosing issues with your teeth, but also potential problems in the rest of your body. For instance, during a regularly scheduled cleaning you may learn that you should also get your heart checked out? And with such early detection, you hopefully will be made aware of issues in your heart, lungs, etc. soon enough to avoid unnecessary complications later.

So, as you think about your health, you may want to ask yourself: What’s my state of mouth?

The Mayo Clinic also says that ‘Oral Health is a Window to your Overall Health.’ They recommend the following as a guide in protecting your oral health.

  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day.
  • Replace your toothbrush every three to four months.
  • Floss daily.
  • Eat a healthy diet and limit between-meal snacks.
  • Schedule regular dental checkups.

Also, watch for signs and symptoms of oral disease and contact your dentist as soon as a problem arises. Remember, taking care of your oral health is an investment in your overall health.
