Clean Teeth At WorkMost people spend at least eight hours a day at work, but there is still time to keep your teeth healthy. You can do a few simple things each day to avoid tooth decay and improve your smile between dental visits.

Rinse with mouthwash.

Just swish the mouthwash in your mouth for about 30 seconds, two to three times a day. Your breath will be fresh and bacteria that can cause tooth decay will be destroyed.

Or rinse with plain water.

A recent study showed that brushing with just water can actually clean teeth better than using toothpaste. This is because the bristles actually touch your tooth enamel and remove any food or bacteria on the tooth. Just duck in your office bathroom and do this for about 1-2 minutes.

Floss after eating.

It just takes a couple of minutes to remove food that is stuck between teeth. Just stick your floss in your desk drawer and it will be ready for action if needed.

Eat foods that can clean your teeth.

Include firm foods like apples, carrots and celery in your workday for lunch or snacks. The crispness of these foods helps remove food that may be left on your teeth.

Avoid sugary foods during the day.

Foods like sweets, sticky foods and carbonated sodas can make your gums bleed and lead to tooth decay and plaque buildup. The acids contained in these foods can also erode tooth enamel.

Brush your teeth.

If you can, just keep a toothbrush at work. Brushing in the morning or after lunch for about two minutes helps remove food from teeth as well as bacteria that can cause cavities and gum disease.

Chew gum.

It’s easy to chew gum while at your desk or in meetings. Chewing gum helps produce saliva and neutralizes acids that can promote tooth decay.

Drink enough water.

Have a glass of water for every hour you are at work. Water helps keep teeth white, rinses away bacteria and is good for your digestion.

Keeping teeth healthy is not only simple…it’s all in a day’s work.
