Children Dental HealthAs we earlier mentioned February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. Instilling good oral hygiene habits early in your children can lead to a lifelong healthy smile, but did you know that just because babies teeth aren’t visible does not mean they are not able to get cavities? A baby has 20 primary teeth and they are in their jaws at birth. These baby teeth start coming through the gums at approximately 6 months of age.

So why do baby teeth matter since they will lose them anyway? If a baby tooth is lost too early, then this may cause the permanent teeth to come into that empty space and prevent other adult teeth from having enough room when they come in. This can result in teeth that are crooked or crowded. So this is why it is important to begin in the right way for the infant’s oral health to help their teeth for many years to come. The ADA recommends that parents take children to a dentist no later than their first birthday and then at intervals recommended by their dentist.
